Since 2008 the Vermont National Guard has partnered with Sengal as part of its U.S. State Partnership Program. Over the years, it has conducted numerous Medical Readiness Exercises (MEDREX) in Senegal. In these exercises, Army and Air National Guard members collaborate with Senegalese military and civilian medical professionals to increase the medical readiness and capabilities of all participating forces by experiencing hands-on training, exchanging knowledge, and providing medical care and services.
In the exercises, participants:
Perform medical procedures and treat patients in local clinics and hospitals.
Repair and maintain medical equipment.
Exchanging best practices on various medical technologies, including water filtration and ventilation systems.
Provide medical supplies.
Recent exercises have also involved personnel from the Vermont and New Hampshire National Guards, the Austrian armed forces, and the Senegalese armed forces
